PaulMcCartney는 Beatles의 해산 이후 그의 아내 Linda McCartney, MoodyBlues의 초기 기타리스트였던 Denny Laine등과 Wings를 결성하여 Band On The Run 이나 Venus and Mars 같은 괜찮은 앨범들을 발표했다. 이 앨범은 1976년 미국 순회공연에서 녹음된 그의 첫번째 라이브 앨범. 사실 그의 솔로앨범을 들어보면 과히 실망스럽거나 나쁘지는 않지만 Beatles 시절에 보여주던 '어떤 것'과는 거리가 멀다. 물론 그것이 Beatles시절 JohnLennon 과의 작업에서 유발된 긴장감이 솔로 독립후 사라졌기 때문이라는 생각도 들지만 한편으로는 확실한 대중적 성공을 통해 자신이 JohnLennon 보다 우월하다고 주장하려 했다는 느낌도 든다. 아뭏든 그는 Beatles 시절의 모습에서 벗어나 깔끔한 팝-록을 만들어 내는데 성공했고 이 앨범은 70년대 중반의 그의 모습을 라이브 앨범이라는 특성까지 살리면서 잘 담아내고 있다. Wings의 곡들이 주를 이루는 가운데 Beatles시절의 곡들과 커버곡들이 적절한 조화를 이루고 있으며 첫곡 Venus and Mars - Rock Show - Jet 으로 이어지는 메들리를 비롯 Long And Winding Road, Blackbird같은 Beatles의 곡들과 Band On The Run이나 Live Or Let Die, Silly Love Songs 같은 Wings의 히트곡들이 들을만 하며 마지막곡 Soily의 하드한 연주는 이 앨범의 백미. Go Now는 Denny Laine이 MoodyBlues에서 활동하던 64년 히트곡이다. Beatles라는 이름의 무게가 만만치 않을만도 하지만 나머지 멤버들의 연주도 훌륭하고 한창때의 PaulMcCartney의 활기찬 보컬도 만족스럽다. 비행선의 문이 열리는 모습을 담은 커버는 Hipgnosis의 작품. 일반 cd는 2장, 일본에서 발매된 종이커버 cd는 3장으로 구성되어있다. 팝-록의 명작 라이브 앨범. -- Xanadu 2003-2-12 4:17 -- 고려바위로 돌아오기전 일종의 워밍업 (간만에 쓰려니 잘 안되는군)

80년대로 들어오면서 McCartney는 Wings라는 다소 거추장스러운 이름을 떼어버리고 말그대로의 솔로로서 활동을 시작하는데 Wings 시절보다도 더욱 팝적인 분위기의 음악으로 변모했지만 그 나름의 완성도는 지속적으로 유지해 왔다. 이 앨범은 Wings Over America이후 거의 15년만에 발표한 그의 두번째 솔로 라이브 앨범으로 전작보다 더욱 비틀즈 시절의 곡들에 많은 비중을 두고 있다. 앨범 Flowers In The Dirt 발표후 가진 순회공연이기 때문에 그 앨범의 수록곡이 상대적으로 많기는 하지만 그의 30여년에 걸친 음악활동의 대표작들이 모여있다고 해도 과언은 아니다. 무엇보다도 관객들이 부르는 Hey Jude의 후반부나 공연의 마지막을 장식하는 Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End가 주는 감동이 상당하고 Let It Be 나 The Fool On The Hill, Maybe I'm Amazed, Band On The Run 등 줄줄이 이어지는 비틀즈와 솔로시절의 걸작들은 이 앨범의 가치를 한껏 빛내주고 있다. 한마디로 필청음반이며 개인적으로는 그의 모든 라이브 음반중 최고의 작품으로 꼽고 싶다. -- Xanadu 2003-3-5 2:50

1991년 1월에 가진 폴메카트니의 MTV Unplugged 공연 앨범이다. Linda McCartney를 비롯한 당시 그의 공연 멤버들이 그대로 참여했다. 90년대 초에는 참 쟁쟁한 팝-록계의 거물들이 MTV Unplugged 공연을 가졌는데 EricClapton 이나 Sting, BobDylan, Nirvana 등의 공연실황이 유명하다. 당시의 분위기 덕분에 음반도 미국차트 14위에 오르는 등 좋은 성적을 거뒀다. 타이틀이 말해주듯이 음반의 겉모양은 bootleg의 분위기를 많이 가지고 있다. 수록곡을 살펴보면 그의 공연에서 흔히 연주되는 곡들이 아닌 자신의 숨겨진 곡들이나 커버곡들이 주를 이루고 있다는 점이 특이하다. Paul 과 Hamish Stuart가 함께 부른 Beatles의 And I Love Her 같은 곡이 주목할만 하고 그외에 그가 14세때 처음으로 작곡한 곡이라는 I Lost My Little Girl 같은곡도 수록되어있다. 전체적인 분위기는 Unplugged 공연다운 편안함이 주를 이루고 있고 들어볼만한 가치는 충분하다. -- Xanadu 2003-2-12 10:37

93년 발표된 앨범 Off The Ground의 순회공연 실황을 담은 앨범으로 cd 한장의 간소한 분량으로 발표되었다. 90년에 이미 Tripping The Live Fantastic을 발표했다는 점을 생각할때 한장의 스튜디오 앨범을 발표하고 한장의 라이브 앨범을 내는 식의 상업적인 의도가 느껴지기도 하지만 어떤 면에서는 Tripping The Live Fantastic의 추가 확장판의 느낌도 있어서 Live And Let Die 한 곡을 제외하고는 수록곡이 전혀 겹치지 않는다. Beatles시절의 곡들을 제외하고는 대부분이 Off The Ground의 곡들이 주를 이루고 있으며 마지막 4곡은 공연전 Soundcheck시 녹음된 곡이다. Beatles시절의 곡들은 대부분 We Can Work It Out 이나 Here There and Everywhere 와 같이 Let It Be나 Hey Jude, Yesterday 같은 곡들보다 인지도 면에서 한단계 떨어지는 곡들이라는 점은 이 앨범이 Tripping The Live Fantastic의 부록이라는 느낌을 더욱 강하게 해주고 있다. Robbie McIntosh의 기타 연주곡인 Robbie's Bit 같은곡도 주목할만 하다. Abbey Road의 커버를 패러디한 자켓 사진과 앨범의 타이틀은 그의 사망설에 대한 나름의 답변. 라이브 앨범으로서의 현장감이나 완성도는 다소 미흡한것이 사실이지만 Tripping The Live Fantastic을 좋게 들었다면 즐거운 마음으로 들을수 있을것이다. -- Xanadu 2003-2-13 6:42
