1 Biography or Not

Their previous releases somehow slipped by my attention. They are one of the few successful rock bands in this day and age of "dance fever." Their style is more conventional and stable, which gives them their popularity. --HongCho, 1998-08-24

★★★☆ GaYo, Hard Rock

YunDoHyeon released his first album in 1994, late December. You may know YunDoHyeon Band, and the name already suggests the straight and powerful vocal. Yes, that's right. You can feel some similar feeling in this album. And, it smells like MinJung GaYo spirit, you may say. But, this album is lacking of coherence(and, some say, polishing). Various subject matters[he is talking about his early days, his dream, his love, his feeling, his thoughts.] are not mingled into harmonies with each other. Each one of them has a unique feeling to itself, and is rather good.

Among them, [Play:YunDoHyeon1TaJan.mp3 TaJan; Tarzan] and [Play:YunDoHyeon1KeunByeolEunEobsEo.mp3 Keun ByeolEun EobsEo ; No Big Star] shows his typical on-going style. They are very exciting, delightful hard-rock numbers, and most beloved songs in the album. But, I think [Play:YunDoHyeon1GaEulUCheGukApESeo.mp3 GaEul UCheGuk ApESeo; In Autumn, In Front of a Post Office] is the best song. Although this song is of ballade-style, the emotional motif of this song is the definitive and the origin in Yun's song till now. It may not be the kind of, what we call, rock spirit. It is rather a concern and love for in-and-around himself. This develops to love for the everyday life of ordinary people and pursuit of the righteous life with everybody around him. He is now a famous Korean rocker, but I love him in this aspect. --SonDon, 1999

Another team whose CD I got for the first time. YunDoHyeun Band's previous works somehow just slipped through my attention... Anyway, they are YuByeongYeol (lead guitar, guitars), EomTaeHwan (guitars, harmonica, percussions), ParkTaeHeui (bass), KimJinWon (drums), and YunDoHyeon (lead vocal, guitars).

Actually they sounded much more "modern" than what I expected. Their music is a real rock 'n rolls, a bit on a hard side. I like their music. Solid instrument playing...

Bottom line: Into the changer.

After I listened to MaRu a few months ago, I had this notion that this band would sound very archaic because YunDoHyeon Band has collaborated on the MaRu's album and that's what it sounded like to me. However, in reality, their sound is very modern and upbeat. Despite their looks and appearance, they are more of a mainstream classic rock band with a solid performance.

I don't know which track has made the single, but to me, the fourth track, BiSsa BoYeo, sticks to my tongue. --HongCho, 1998-08-24

YunDoHyeon is very straight vocal. His music is simple and powerful hard rock. Many indie bands has British style but YunDoHyeon influenced by American Hhard rock. But his music doesn't similar to American bands'. I think 80s' hard rock like JakEunGeoIn or Magma is the father of him. He acted as rock musical hero and movie actor. And the band played live so much[100 or more times per year]. In Korean rock, live concert is very important part, from 80s most indie artists/folk singers giged so much. And most bands shows better music on live than on records. After Korean Rock tribute album he released live album. And 2 members changed. I think Yun DoHyeon tries to change the band's colour. They got popularity among many other indie bands. --DisTort, 2000
