"영국인"은 영국 작가 조지 오웰이 쓴 에세이로, 1947년 8월에 처음 출판되었다. 이 에세이는 1943년 9월 W. J. 터너가 편집한 "브리튼 인 픽처스" 시리즈를 위해 의뢰된 것으로, 정보부에서 시리즈의 아이디어를 제공했다. 이 책은 25개의 삽화와 함께 출판되었으며, 그중 8장은 전면 컬러로 되어 있었고, 에드워드 아디조니, 데임 로라 나이트, L. S. 로우리, 헨리 무어, 존 민턴, 펠릭스 토폴스키 같은 예술가들의 작품이 포함되었다.
이 에세이는 제2차 세계대전 중에 쓰였으며, "영국인"이 무엇을 의미하는지에 대한 오웰의 시각을 제시한다.
오웰은 자신의 이 작품에 대해 그다지 높게 평가하지 않았으며, 이를 "어리석다"고 표현하고, "선전"이라고 비판하며, 재출판을 허용하지 않았다.
그러나 오웰은 비평가들의 찬사에도 불구하고 자신의 작품을 종종 폄하하는 경향이 있었다는 견해도 있다.
