Quasi는 포틀랜드 출신의 Sam Coomes와 Janet Weiss가 함께 만든 프로젝트 그룹이다. Donner Party와 Heatmeiser에서 활동했던 Sam Coomes는 현재 Sleater Kinney의 멤버이기도 하다. 둘 다 한때는 Motorgoat라는 밴드에 속해 있었고, 부부였었다. 그들의 어두운 인디락 사운드는 가종 언더그라운드 음악잡지에서 호평을 받는 Coomes의 소박한 70년대 Roxichord synthesizer에 그 뿌리를 두고있다.

지금은 절판이된 여러장의 싱글 LP들을 발표한 후, 1996년 Sub Pop's Up레코드에서 R&B Transnogrification이라는 앨범을 통해 데뷰를 하고 1998년에는 Featuring "Birds"라는 앨범을 발표한다.

Quasi is a Portland-based indie rock side-project featuring Sam Coomes (Roxichord/guitar/songwriting), formerly of Donner Party and Heatmeiser, and Janet Weiss (drums), currently of Sleater Kinney. Both musicians used to perform in the band Motorgoat, and were once married to each other. The duo performs dark, lo-fi indie rock based around Coomes' Roxichord, a primitive, mid-'70s synthesizer, earning positive reviews in the underground press.

After releasing a series of now out-of-print 7-inches (collected on 1996's Early Recordings), Quasi made its proper debut in 1996 with R&B Transmogrification, issued by Sub Pop's Up Records imprint. Featuring "Birds" followed in 1998.

한때 부부였던 오래곤 출신의 냉소적인 듀오가 발표한 세번째 앨범은 감미롭고, 간결한 보컬속에 가슴을 쥐어뜯는 고통과 절망을 숨기고 있다. Coomes의 George Martinesque의 부드러운 키보드는 Weiss의 거친 드럼소리에 스며든다. 그들의 목소리는 냉소적으로 조화를 이룬 가사안에서 조우한다. (우리는 지옥을 경험했다. / 그냥 지옥에 가기위하여) 심지어 이런 작은 방법으로 그들은 놀랄만큼 큰 음조와 느낌을 만들어낸다. 그들의 지하 연습실이 아닌 스튜디오에서 처음 녹음된 Featuring "Birds"는 음악가의 내면적이고 시간을 초월한 높은 완성도를 보여주는가하면 세련된 하나의 음반으로도 높은 가치를 지니고 있다.

Quasi put the "rock" in rocky relationships. The third release from this sardonic Portland, Oregon, ex-husband-and-wife duo (an updated Captain and Tennille?) hides gut-wrenching heartache and despair inside sugary vocal harmonies and catchy, succinct songwriting. Sam Coomes' George Martinesque keyboard work burbles and ducks around the blustery drumming of Janet Weiss (who also plays in Sleater-Kinney), their voices conjoining in cynically humorous lyrics ("We went through hell/Just to get to hell"); even with this minimal instrumentation, they effect a startlingly broad spectrum of tone and feeling. Featuring "Birds," the first of Quasi's records not recorded in their own basement, has smooth production values while retaining the personal, all-the-time-in-the-world quality of their previous efforts. Bitterness has never sounded so sweet. (RS 786)
