Kim Mok-kyong 김목경 Kim Mok-kyong is one of Korea's best exponents of blues-rock guitar. His style is probably best compared to Eric Clapton and he is a big fan of Clapton's. However in conversations with Mok-Kyong I did not get the impression that he is an unwavering, unquestioning fan. He certainly has a good knowledge of the significant figures of the electric blues age. His playing also has elements of a B.B. King melodic style and occasionally he explores country influences.
Kim Mok-kyong's interest in blues began when he selected an album at a illegal record market because he was attracted to the photograph on the cover. The album turned out to be Eric Clapton and Mok-Kyong became fascinated with blues. He went back to the market to find more, and discovered more music by Clapton as well as the musicians that influenced Clapton.

Kim moved to England to study in 1984. He found he could supplement his living funds by playing at bars and stayed in England continuing to develop his style until 1990 when he returned to Korea.

In 1998 he released his third album and opened a bar called "Play the Blues" where he performed on weekends. The venture was not successful and the bar closed after a few months. He is currently working on a forth album, due for release in late '99.--MichaelGlass
