동일한 프로젝트 내에서 여러 개발자가 다양한 편집기 및 IDE를 사용하여 작업하는 경우, 일관된 코딩 스타일을 유지하는 데 도움을 준다.
코딩 스타일을 정의하는 파일 형식과 정의된 스타일을 준수할 수 있도록 하는 텍스트 편집기 플러그인으로 구성된다.
EditorConfig 파일은 읽기 쉽고, 버전 관리 시스템과도 잘 작동한다.
